How to compare restaurant locations
A restaurant location scorecard compares sites using consistent criteria and chosen weights. Rate each criterion from 1 to 5, multiply it by its percentage weight and add the results. Check deal-breakers separately: a high score cannot resolve a premises problem.
- Investigate permitted use, required approvals, utilities and written occupancy costs with the appropriate local professionals.
- Choose weights before scoring. Rate customer fit, access, cost and operational fit using evidence from comparable visits.
- Record what remains unknown. Use the result to organise your decision, not as a guarantee or substitute for due diligence.
Worked example
Worked example: weights of 30%, 25%, 25% and 20% give Site A (4, 3, 2, 4) a score of 3.25/5 and Site B (3, 4, 4, 3) a score of 3.50/5. The figures are fictional. Unresolved site requirements still need checking.
